10/10/10 :) its bound to be a day i will remember for a long time!. I ran my first ever half marathon in 2 hours 42 min n 33 seconds at Masterton NZ.
To be able to dream and then see that dream come true is to be truly alive i believe.
It is often said that an event changes a person. This whole training and the rush of adrenalin when i crossed the finish line have indeed change my view completely about the world of sport. The world of physical exertion and sport was beyond me 5 years ago in the pre-prashi life.Things have changed so much since then that i sometimes need to pinch myself to believe that i have actually run a half marathon.
When i had heard of people running a crazy 21.1km, i had always brushed it aside of course with a sense of awe. And then it all changed, first i got a vague idea that one need not be a super human to run for 2+ hours at a stretch and that training is at the heart of it. When i ran 8 ks and came home not being tired or worn out at all my dream started firming up. Now drum rolls for the behind the scenes credit...
Prashi the man who gave my dreams wings and brought it to life was the real motivation.
My 2 cheerleaders were such a push in the last stretch.... the last half k he ran with me carrying khushi clapping and shouting out to me:). If not for that i am sure i would have walked to the finish line. The incredible feeling even as i collpased into a heap of exhaustion was well worth the effort.
The regular training , practice runs and the build up to the day. It was all so much fun. Sometimes i feel spoilt because i cant think of anyone who would conspire through such a crazy idea... to drive to another town ,with a 10 month old, after a tennis match, on a rainy evening in hope that i will run the first ever half marathon! It is this belief he has in me that has helped me push myself physically and mentally to achieve this tough feat.
Now that i have tasted the joy of it.. i am addicted! biathlon here i come :D
The training: Gymming at Talwalkars mangalore :) every day for close to 3 months.
Runs at Oriental parade. The song of the waves hitting the shores rhythmically and gently(ya i only ran on good weather days :))
Carrying khushi around was a prt too.. the more weight she gained it sort of became endurance training :)
At the end of the day it was so much fun .. i hope i dont forget the experience
